Around 78, my dad bought a used 71 galaxy 500 station wagon as a second car for mom, had a 351w. That engine/body combo was completely gutless, I remember laughing out loud the first time I floored it on a drive. Comfortable and roomy tho.
These car rhode s smooth and easy to steer not like the garbage they make these days
Agatha. Urnk!
Yep that was pretty bad...true comparison but, wow... 😔
They forget to mention that New Yorker and Imperial share the 392 cublic foot HEMI V8. New Yorker kept beating the others because it is unibody and weighs less than the body on frame Imperial and Cadillac. Imperial also is built like a tank. It could go through a brick wall and keep going.
Merde
Love the red marker light instead of amber on the front fender at 3.17.
One of the challenges auto makers have is that gas engines have a speed range of nearly 10 to 1 (700 to 7000 rpm), though accessories like generators, water pumps, power steering pumps and A/C compressors all have to operate at any speed. That means most of these accessories are sized for low speed/low power, which means they're oversized at normal driving speeds.
Chrysler's low hp flathead engine, crappy fluid drive tranny, stodgy design, leaf springs as opposed to coil springs was a fail.
The announcer made a mistake in describing the Lincoln rear-in treatment. He said that the 1960 Lincoln went to oval from square-in treatment in the 1959. He got his facts backwards.
I was stopped in a 1980 chevrolet caprice station wagon, got rear ended by a car goin about 60 km/hr by the time they slowed down tires squeeling and rammed me. I didnt feel a thing wasnt hurt. Put it in park and walked out, unfortunately wagons rear was bent bad. But you felt safe in those cars.
I have a 1977 318 block for sale near Samson county if anyone is interested
I had a 71 Scamp v8. Auto in floor console. Bucket seats. A/C Great car
I'll take the Galaxie any day.
There's no way any American going into a dealer. Looking at these cars, you know the exact details of door space. Seat height wheelbase, etc. They see a car they like, they drive it and take off with it. And the chevy struck more buyers ohh and trunk space either !
A time when cars were built of steel and little plastic.
It's great to have a real human voice narrating this excellent video.
No way the original voice commentary;
Unfair comparison. The Polara was competing more with the Mercury Monterey... but the Ford Galaxie 500 was competing more with the PLYMOUTH FURY.
My grandfather had a car dealership in Chicago. De Soto was one of his brands. He aslo had Nash, Essex, Willys, Hudson, Kaiser-Fraiser, and Jeep. I also remember a magazine we were using when I was in Primary School. Showed the Chrysler products in the late '50s with the huge tail fins. The "reason" for those fins , according bto the advertisement, was to equalise the force of a side wind, so the car would not sway and be hard to handle in a side wind. I was about 8-9 years old and knew this was BS.
Kinda creepy without music, no jazzy elevator music with strings? This would have been very odd even by the early 1960s. Neat.
Hold up! I love my Mopars and grew up in a Mopar family, however, I owned a 67 Mercury Cougar w/ a 289 4BB and 4 speed manual and it was so much fun to drive!
Remember? , the white man built all these wonderful beautiful machines.
I would choose Cadillac
I found this video 50 years too late to help me repair my non-functioning gauges in my'68 Barracuda coupe. Slant 6 3 on the tree. I really loved that car.
If I could've had one of these with a 440-6 under the hood...IF only.
@2:23 - what the fuck does the "spirit of the west" and "she was a woman" have to do with anything? Sales/propaganda/bullshit.
I've never ridden in a Cadillac or Imperial but I will say that the Imperial indeed has a lot more room than the Cadillacs and Lincolns of the era and that the Imperial is about 2 inches taller than a Cadillac or Lincoln of the era and that they have far superior handling than the Cadillacs and Lincolns of the era. Yeah the Imperial does not have a great ride for it's size but if you like handling this would be a car of choice. But if you want a superior ride than the Lincoln would be the better choice for ride. If you want somewhere in between get a Cadillac which is the best way I can at least describe even if I myself don't own any of these cars but at least by doing research it really does give you an idea on what you really want in a car.
I will take one Hemi Cuda convertible 4 speed in every color possible please. Where do i sign on the dotted line sir?
I surely remember the oil embargo. All that we had to do was produce more oil.
Lean burn in the later 70s
Beautiful trucks ❤
Maverick isn't a PINTO, Dillus. It' was a Falcon and had an available BOSS 429 RAT Bib block. But I would have still bought a 340 Duster. It was a baby wedge V8 340 that hauled arse ans just looked awesome. Handled great, too. Stang had the better designed instrument panel. But the Duster held more cargo and had more useful interior space. Duster all the way. The best Small V8 by the great ChryCo.
Any info available on this junkyard?
Friends we are living are ideas 💪
Surprised they didn't mention the 300 model
Easily in the Top 5 of best looking American cars. And engine power to match. (but yeah, those old commercials/promos were very cheesy)
where's the c'maro?
I just purchased a 69' 500 Conv - the same color combination as the one in this video. Mine has a console and buckets. This video is extremely helpful as my car has 49K original miles on it and I intend to make sure I keep everything stock looking. My Dad had a (new) 68 that was also white, but the W1 in 69 seems to have a slight yellow tint. You can tell by the door shot that contrasts the interior white with the exterior color. I will keep this video bookmarked.
Milbern Drysdale
And 3 people, one man and 2 women could sit in the back seat of a Chrysler. And not touch each other until they were married.
The rear Seats in the Chrysler were big. They could handle all the gangsters that will rub out sunny colleone.
Cool old building
I thought the font/typeface on the dashboard labels was odd. Looked like "old west". I half expected to see "Sarsaparilla" among the different labels.
My first car was a 1970 Barracuda. Fun car.
Soend a few dollars more for a Dodge Dart...much better looking than the stubby Valiant.
The 1965 Fairlane was an especially homely vehicle.
Whenever I see a Coronet from this era I think taxi or police car.
And with the Pontiac, you had to settle for a full perimeter frame.
Ahh Memories. I owned a 1976 Dodge Daytona and LOVED it! Great car, two toned blue.💙
